Rain ruins Everards programme

by Harry Josephs

Every game in the Everards Leicestershire and Rutland Premier League was rain-affected this weekend and no fixture was completed.

They all started but unfortunately not one beat the weather – it was a shame given four sides out of the top five met.
Leaders Sileby batted first against fourth-placed Kegworth and made 268 before being bowled out in the 49th over of the innings.

Openers Luke Gale and Dave Torr put on 121 for the first wicket before Gale departed for 44. Sileby made steady progress throughout their innings: Torr top-scored with 83 and Jake Gillett posted 48. Elliot Turner took four wickets for Kegworth, conceding just 39 runs from his 10 overs.

Barkby (third) batted first against Barrow Town (fifth) and made a competitive 251 for 9 from their 50 overs.

Each of the Barkby top five got starts but nobody went on to record a big score. Number five Ben Silver posted an innings high 54 not out, an innings that included five fours and a maximum.

Silver was well-supported by openers by Adam Stapleford-Jones and Louis Botting. They put on 107 for the first wicket, Stapleford-Jones scoring 47 and Botting 44. For Barrow wickets were shared around; Ankesh Dunsuclal took three, and Rajneesh Kumar and Jayshal Chauhan each collected two.

Loughborough Town and Leicester Ivanhoe also played an innings but rain curtailed their fixture. Loughborough were in real trouble at 88 for 7 but Greg Hollins scored 95 from 88 balls an innings that contained 14 fours and two sixes before he was dismissed by Leicestershire’s Sam Evans.

Hollins put on 115 with number nine Kyle Saddington, who ended 52 not out. Loughborough finished their 50 overs at 230 for 9. Jack Gilford (pictured) was the star for Ivanhoe bowling 9-1-49-5, his spell removing each of the Loughborough top three.

Rothley won the toss and elected to bat against Market Harborough. Number three Richard Williams top-scored with 55, and Adam Hackett and Phil DeFreitas both scored 39 as Rothley reached 184-9 from 50. For Market Harborough Joe Gordon took 4-42 from his 10 overs, Rob Taylor and Salman Mir also picked up two wickets before the rain arrived.

In the other two games in the division Syston were 234-5 from 46 overs against Enderby before the rain fell, and Kibworth were 150-6 against Lutterworth before the premature finish after Pite van Biljoen continued his fine season with 75.

Sileby collected ten points alongside Loughborough, Kegworth, Barkby and Syston, while Ivanhoe, Market Harborough and Barrow took nine apiece. Rothley Park and Lutterworth claimed eight points, and Kibworth and Enderby collected seven each.
