Raine making his mark

Leicestershire all-rounder Ben Raine is making his mark in the Professional Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player Rankings.

Raine, Leicestershire’s new PCA representative, has moved into 10th place in the rankings table after three rounds of matches in the Specsavers County Championship.

Raine took 30 PCA MVP points from Leicestershire’s draw with Glamorgan at the Fischer County Ground in which he contributed useful runs – 45 in the first innings and 23 in the second – and took six wickets in the match.

He began his season with a 30 points haul from the defeat by Nottinghamshire, 20 of them for taking a career-best six for 66 in the first innings.

Raine has 71 rankings points this season, one more than  Surrey’s Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara and nine behind Mark Footitt, the Surrey left-arm pace bowler, and Hampshire all-rounder Gareth Berg.

The PCA MVP Rankings system identifies the match-winners and key influencers of matches throughout the domestic season. It takes into account conditions, quality of opposition, captaincy and strike-rates as well as runs scored and wickets taken.

Ned Eckersley is Leicestershire’s next highest-placed player in the rankings table in 37th place with 48 points, eight of them for his second innings 73 against Glamorgan.

The other Leicestershire players in the top 100 of the PCA MVP Rankings are Clint McKay (36 points)  in 68th place and Mark Pettini (33 points) in 78th.
