Rehan Ahmed to Make England History

Leicestershire CCC all-rounder Rehan Ahmed will become England Men’s youngest ever Test debutant when he plays in the third Test against Pakistan in Karachi on Saturday.

The 18-year-old will surpass Brian Close, who represented the three lions at 18 years and 149 days against New Zealand in July 1949, and become the first Leicestershire player to feature in Test cricket since Jimmy Ormond in 2001.

Ahmed will be part of two changes heading into the final Test of the series, with Ben Foakes also coming in for Will Jacks and James Anderson.

Claude Henderson, Director of Cricket, said: “As a Club, we are extremely proud of Rehan. It’s a historic day for Leicestershire and the coaches that have contributed to his development.

“His selection is testament to the hard work he has shown, and we believe he has the right mindset, enthusiasm, and skills to thrive in international cricket.

“Knowing Rehan, he will be up for the challenge. He’ll want to make an impact and win the game for England.”

England lead 2-0 in the series, with the final game getting underway at 5am GMT on Saturday.
