Rishi Patel Joins Foxes on Loan

Leicestershire County Cricket Club has announced that Rishi Patel has joined on loan for the remainder of the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy campaign.

Patel will link up with his new Leicestershire teammates ahead of the fixture against Nottinghamshire this weekend.

Having made his first-class debut last season for the 2019 County Championship Champions Essex, against Cambridge MCCU, the 22-year old went on to make five further appearances scoring a total of 146 runs with a best of 35.

The exciting batsman first came to attention after equalling former Leicestershire and Essex batsman Darren Robinson’s Second XI record of five centuries in a season in 2019, which was rewarded with a call-up to the first team for the visit of India.

Patel also made his List A debut last season, posting his best score to date of 35 against Hampshire.

Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Paul Nixon said: “We are delighted to welcome Rishi to our club, he is a quality young player who wants to keep developing.”

Upon signing his loan agreement, Patel said: “I’m very excited to be allowed to come on loan to Leicestershire, I would like to thank Essex to agreeing to the loan. Hopefully it will be a great opportunity to get some game time and score some runs to help Leicestershire.”
