Angus Robson registered his second consecutive fifty and Mark Cosgrove made his first appearance for Leicestershire in the intra-squad game today.
In total 25 players were named in the match with 12 in today’s batting team, including Cosgrove, who batted at number four.
James Pearson, Matt Pardoe and Matt Cross are on trial and Academy players George Corbett, Joe Kendall, Alex Kent, Joe Clarke and David Sayer were also involved in the game.
Team 1 (12): Robson, Redfern, Eckersley, Cosgrove, Pinner, Raine, Naik, Kent, Sheikh, Wyatt, Corbett, Clarke
Team 2: (13) Boyce, Pardoe, Ali, Hill, Wells, Taylor, Cross, Kendall, Sykes, Freckingham, Shreck, Pearson, D.Sayer
Openers Robson and Dan Redfern put on 53 in good time before Redfern mistimed a pull off Freckingham and picked out Matthew Boyce at mid-on after making 28.
After Freckingham and Charlie Shreck had a rest, Pearson and Rob Taylor came on first change.
Robson progressed to a bright 45-ball 50, including nine boundaries and an all-run four, but he edged his next delivery as Pearson got nice shape. Lewis Hill completed the dismissal behind the stumps.
Cosgrove made his way to the middle with the score on 93-2 but there was rain in the air and he did not get to face a ball at that point.
But the shower passed and Cosgrove was able to take strike for a Pearson delivery. The players were soon scampering for cover again though after the addition of a Ned Eckersley single.
Play got back underway after lunch and Cosgrove fell lbw to Taylor to the first ball after the interval as the left-armer nipped one back sharply.
Taylor caused problems by extracting movement from the Bennett End but Eckersley (10*) and Neil Pinner (12*) got through before more rain arrived with the score on 111-3.
It did not relent so play was abandoned for the day and we will try again at 11am tomorrow morning. The bowling figures were: Shreck 6-0-35-0, Freckingham 6-1-30-1, Pearson 4.5-1-32-1, Taylor 4-2-10-1.
