Robson posts 50 at Loughborough

Leicestershire Head Coach Andrew McDonald saw Angus Robson make a battling half-century against Loughborough MCCU today.

McDonald arrived in the UK yesterday afternoon and linked up with the players and coaches at Loughborough UniversityÔÇÖs campus this morning.

RobsonÔÇÖs 57 was the highest score in a total of 197-7 and the Students replied with 66-2 after 19.5 overs. There were no interruptions in the Leicestershire innings but there was a break in LoughboroughÔÇÖs innings after 14 overs before more rain put paid to the day.

The fixture was played with a red ball under Championship regulations. Leicestershire named a 13-man team for what was scheduled to be a 50-over game. There were two changes because of rotation from Friday's match against Derbyshire with Aadil Ali and Ollie Freckingham coming in for Lewis Hill and Charlie Shreck.

The Leicestershire side was: Robson, Redfern, Eckersley (captain and wicket-keeper), Boyce, Pinner, Wells, Raine, Ali, Naik, Sykes, Sheikh, Freckingham, Wyatt.

County batted first and Robson (54) and Matthew Boyce (32) laid the foundations. But Loughborough MCCU hit back with the wickets of Boyce, Ned Eckersley (0), Dan Redfern (0), Neil Pinner (5) and Tom Wells (4).

Robson and Ben Raine (16) were the other wickets to fall before Ali (24*) and Jigar Naik (22*) saw County through to the end of the innings with a gritty partnership.

Freckingham (1-16 off 6 overs) and Wells (1-7 off 2.5 overs) picked up the wickets in a shortened bowling session for Leicestershire. Other bowling figures were: Sheikh 3-0-19-0, Raine 5-2-15-0, Wyatt 3-3-0-0.

The next action for the team is an intra-squad game on Wednesday and Thursday at Grace Road (11am start).
