Running Fox Drafted for T10 Tournament

Leicestershire allrounder Roman Walker is heading out to the Middle East after being drafted by Chennai Braves for their inaugural season in the Abu Dhabi T10 competition.

He will be joining the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bopara and Wahab Riaz and will be under the tutelage of former Warwickshire player and coach Dougie Brown for the entirety of the competition.

The 21-year-old signed for Leicestershire during the 2021 campaign after making his debuts in List A and T20 cricket in 2019 for Glamorgan CCC.

Walker, who initially joined on loan, featured for Leicestershire Second XI twice in 2021, taking five wickets and recording 55 runs.

Upon agreeing a deal to head out to the Middle East, the Welshman said: “I am excited to be taking part in Chennai Braves’ first ever season in T10 cricket.

“It is a great opportunity for me to go and learn some new skills in different conditions and put them into practice before next season.”

Leicestershire CCC Director of Cricket Claude Henderson was keen for Walker to get some overseas cricket under his belt ahead of the 2022 season. He said: “This is a great opportunity to go and develop ahead of the 2022 domestic season.

“He will have a chance to work on different areas of his game, as well as represent Leicestershire on a global stage.

“We all wish him well in the coming month.”

The 2021 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 begins on Friday, November 19, 2021, with Chennai Braves’ first game in the competition taking place against Deccan Gladiators a day later.
