Leicestershire County Cricket Club can announce the signing of Abidine Sakande on a contract until the end of the 2021 season.
Sakande has featured for the Leicestershire CCC Second XI throughout the course of the season so far, taking a host of wickets against the likes of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire and Durham Second XI’s, and currently has the most Second XI Championship wickets for the Club this season.
Formerly of Sussex CCC where the right-arm quick made his first-class bow in 2014, Abi has shown his potential with the ball, having taken 40 wickets in his 18 first-class appearances so far.
Having spent two years out of the game amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Sakande will look be looking to push for places across all three formats as he continues his comeback to the professional game.
Upon signing for Leicestershire, Sakande said: “I am very excited, and I am very grateful for the opportunity that I have been given, and the faith that has been shown in me by Nico [Paul Nixon]. Hopefully I can convert any opportunities I get into performances.
“I am now focussing on keeping myself in the frame as much as I can and if there are any opportunities that come around in the first team, to make sure that I am ready to take those when they come.â€
Head Coach Paul Nixon said: “We’re delighted to have signed Abi to a contract here in Leicestershire.
“He has spent a couple of years out of the game recently, but he has come into to our Second XI set up and performed brilliantly. He is a good guy and a good cricketer to have around the group, and it’ll be a good chance for him to get involved in professional cricket once again.â€
