Sam Evans will become Leicestershire CCC’s first concussion replacement ahead of the second day of the pink ball day-night Specsavers County Championship game at Derbyshire CCC.
Fellow opening batsman Harry Dearden was struck on the head during the final session of play yesterday and had to retire hurt on 9 at the 3aaa County Ground.
Leicestershire CCC Head Physio Will Garvey led Dearden from the field, and the club informed Cricket Liaison Officer Graham Cowdrey of their intention to withdraw Dearden from the game.
The new ECB regulations were introduced ahead of the 2018 season and allow a like for like replacement who can bat and bowl in the game. Evans will therefore bat in Dearden’s place for the rest of the match.
Dearden has rested overnight and is showing improvements in his symptoms, and thanks everybody for their well wishes.
