REPORT |

Leicestershire Second XI suffered a brace of defeats in the latest round of T20 matches at Kidderminster.

Ollie Freckingham won the toss and elected to field in the first game and his charges suffered a three-run defeat.

Worcestershire made 164-7, runs being shared by the Pears’ Alexei Kervezee (32), Joe Clarke (27), Alex Gidman (27*) and Will Fraine (27*).

Spin proved the way forward for County as Rob Sayer (4-0-26-2), Neil Pinner (4-0-27-1) and Aadil Ali (2-0-10-2) applied the shackles.

Leicestershire got close after a stand of 77 for the second wicket by Lewis Hill (44) and Pinner (45) had the team on 97-1 in the 11th over but Chris Russell (4-0-24-3) and Darrel Williams (4-0-24-2) dragged things back.

Hill skippered the team in the second match and the visitors made 161-2 thanks in large to an opening stand of 123 between trialist Jason Marshall (65) and Ali (61).

That was part of a good day’s work by Marshall, who snapped up three good catches on the boundary over the course of the day.

Off-spinner Sayer again excelled for Leicestershire, this time snaring 3-19 from his allocation, but Worcestershire got home off the first ball of the final over as George Rhodes guided his side home with 46 not out.

The Second XI now have four days of action at home next week against Northamptonshire. The Championship game starts on Monday (11am) at Hinckley Town/CCA and two T20 matches follow against the same opposition at Grace Road on Thursday (11.30am start).
