Scotland edged out by New Zealand

Rob Taylor’s Scotland gave joint hosts New Zealand a good game in their first match of the ICC World Cup.

Scotland were in trouble on 12-4 before former Matt Machan (56) and Leicestershire all-rounder Richie Berrington (50) added 97 for the fifth wicket.

New Zealand had another purple patch to restrict Scotland to 142 all out as Corey Anderson and Daniel Vettori each claimed three wickets. Taylor made four before being stumped off Vettori.

New Zealand moved to 48-1 after 6.5 overs as the chase started brightly but Scotland made them fight all of the way.

Seven wickets were lost in total as Iain Wardlaw and Josh Davey each collected three victims. Taylor finished with figures of 4-0-27-0.

Scotland can take plenty of heart from the game into their next fixture against England.
