SEC v Durham CCC 2nd XI Day Three Report

A proper Spring morning was in wait for us, sun shining and pleasantly warm, when we arrived at Kibworth CC for day three of the SEC match between Leicestershire and Durham.

A change of personnel was made to each side. Cameron Bancroft having been called up to the First XI by Durham, was replaced by Amaan ul-Haq. Pip Jackson had to withdraw from the game for Leicestershire due to an injury and was replaced by Academy leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, who was making his debut for the Second XI as a 16-year-old.

Durham secured a resounding victory dismissing Leicestershire for 127 in their second innings, and only required 36 runs to win. Durham knocked off the runs without loss.

Spectators were unable to attend the game due to Second XI cricket outgrounds operating Behind Closed Doors, but a delivery had arrived to the ground of three rather industrial sized bags of Werthers Original for my undivided attention. A very sincere thank you from me to Ray for his extremely kind gesture. Keep ‘em coming Raymondo!!

Leicestershire resumed from their overnight 54-2 from 19 overs, Harry Dearden 4* joined at the crease by Nick Welch. In the 8th over of the morning Dearden (12, 50b) was caught at cover by Matthew Potts off the bowling of left arm seamer Jack Campbell, County 79-3 from 26.1.

Welch (28, 52b) followed some eight overs later when caught in the gully by Sean Dickson off the bowling of left arm spinner Liam Trevaskis. Leicestershire 106-4 from 35.

The remaining six wickets fell for a total of just 21 runs. Scott Steel (16, 28b) was pinned in front by seamer Oliver Gibson. Will Davis (4, 4b) followed a similar feat, attempting a sweep, this time the bowler being Trevaskis.

Jarred Lysaught (3, 5b) pulled a short ball from Gibson, the ball spiralling up into the air, Dickson running from first slip to short backward square to take the catch. Max Law (1, 20b) was bowled by Trevaskis.

Rehan Ahmed (0, 4b) was caught and bowled by a Amaan ul-Haq, a fellow leg spinner. Last man Abidine Sakande (0, 8b) was another lbw victim for Trevaskis. Dylan Church (9*, 36b) remained steadfast, but unfortunately ran out of partners. Leicestershire all out for 127 from 48.3 overs. Trevaskis the pick of the bowlers with 4-12 from 11.3, returning match figures of 17.3-8-18-7.

Lunch was taken and Durham required a mere 36 runs to win. Graham Clark (20*, 17b) and Dickson (17*, 17b) knocked of the runs in 5.4 overs, the game finishing at 2.00pm precisely. Durham winning by 10 wickets. A first defeat of the season for Leicestershire Second XI, Leicestershire 3 points, Durham 21 points.

A sincere word of thanks to all the hard working people at Kibworth CC who have been helping out, the 2nd XI (now having played 7 days cricket at Kibworth CC this season). Special mention to Jan, Chrissy, (not forgetting Geoffrey aka Leo Sayer, ‘wingman’ supreme) Diane, Angie, and Ian. The regular deliveries to Scorers HQ, the nerve centre of proceedings, was very much appreciated. Tom the Chef, what a man! I shall be looking out for him on Masterchef.

Sincere thanks also to Steve, and all of his hard working grounds team. Also liaison men par excellence, Tim and Len. Again, thank you all on behalf of Leicestershire CCC, see you all again in a couple of weeks.
