SEC v Nottinghamshire CCC 2nd XI Day Three Report

It was ‘cracking the flags’ weather when we arrived at Kibworth CC for day three, which could ultimately be, the final day of the SEC encounter between Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.

Leicestershire trailing Nottinghamshire by 125 runs with four second innings wickets remaining.

Calvin Harrison replaced the absent Matthew Montgomery as Captain for Nottinghamshire on day three. Also, for the Foxes, Harry Funnell came in as a replacement for Nat Bowley. Funnell would take no part in the match unless Nottinghamshire were required to bat again, as Bowley had already been dismissed in Leicestershire’s second innings. Funnell steaming...

Only 90 minutes of play was needed this morning for Nottinghamshire to pick up the four wickets they needed, and winning comfortably by an innings and 57 runs. Joey Evison returning outstanding figures of 7-25.

Leicestershire resumed on their overnight 122-6, Sam Wood 10 not out, Roman Walker 19 not out. Joey Evison, and Zak Chappell opened the attack for Nottinghamshire. Evison, a right arm seamer rattling off six consecutive maidens before a run was scored off him this morning.

Three boundaries came in the sixth over of the morning, bowled by Chappell, two to Walker, and one to Wood. In the next over however, Walker (30) 53b was caught in the gully by Ben Compton off Evison. Leicestershire 137-7 from 40.5 overs.

Wood drove Chappell to the ropes, wide of mid on, in a text book manner in the following over. Wood (24) 79b was trapped in from by Toby Pettman, the score on 153-8 from 47.4 overs. Wood having faced more balls in the match, and been at the crease for more minutes in the match than any other Leicestershire batsman. Let’s hope that as time goes on Wood can develop into a Forest (not Nottingham, of course!).

In the next over Gavin Griffiths (2) 21b went lbw to Evison. County on 153-9 from 48.2 overs.

Alex Evans and Abi Sakande forged an entertaining partnership of 37 for the last wicket. Evans taking seamer Pettman for 14 in one over, including a maximum that finished up in a different post code area.

Evans (26) 18b departed caught and bowled by leg spinner Calvin Harrison. Leicestershire 190 all out from 54.2 overs. Sakande 11 not out. Joey Evison returning outstanding figures of 17-10-25-7 for the innings, and match figures of 28-14-49-9.

Nottinghamshire winning by an innings and 57 runs. Leicestershire 3 points, Nottinghamshire 24 points. The game concluding at 12 noon precisely.

Well that’s it then, the final day of cricket for Leicestershire 2nd XI in 2021. This season the 2nd XI have played all of their home games at Kibworth CC. On behalf of everyone at Leicestershire County Cricket Club I would like to sincerely thank all the volunteers at Kibworth Cricket Club for their effort, commitment, and hard work in facilitating our 2nd XI matches this season.

Chrissy, and her entourage of helpers on the catering side have been exceptional, as has Tom the Chef, and Steve, and his ground staff team. I am sure there are other people connected with Kibworth CC who have contributed immensely as well.

Thank you all.
