Leicestershire CCC has announced some changes and confirmations to the Second XI fixture list for the second half of the 2018 season, including a game at Rugby School.
The three-day Second XI Championship game against Worcestershire, starting on Tuesday, July 3, which was initially listed as TBC on the fixture list, will be played on the First XI square at Rugby School (11am start). It will be the team’s first visit to the ground since 2002.
Rugby School has enjoyed many links with Leicestershire County Cricket Club over the years, not least having benefited from the services of current first-class umpire Nick Cook, who was the cricket professional for five years before taking up that role. Other former players who have served as professionals include Russell Cobb, Lloyd Tennant and the legendary George Geary.
Our three-day Second XI Championship fixture against Warwickshire, starting on Tuesday, July 10, which was originally due to be played at Loughborough Town CC, will now be played at Kibworth CC (11am start).
An additional fixture to the list will see Leicestershire Second XI play Derbyshire Second XI in a one-day friendly at the Fischer County Ground on Tuesday, August 28. The 50-over fixture will start at 11.30am.
Leicestershire CCC Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “We would like to thank all of our host venues for their help in staging Second XI cricket in 2018.
“It is extremely exciting to be visiting Rugby School in early July, and we greatly value the support of Michael Powell, James Mead and Tim Day in allowing us to stage Second XI cricket at the venue for the first time since 2002.
“I’d also like to say a big thank you to Kibworth CC for kindly hosting four red ball games including the recent match against Notts, to Loughborough Town, for staging this week’s friendlies against Kent and later SET20 matches versus Warwickshire, and Lutterworth, who we visited for two exciting SET matches last month.
“Our Head Groundsman Andy Ward and his staff have also worked hard to allow four white ball fixtures to be played at the Fischer County Ground around the First XI fixture list, and are supporting Second XI cricket at other venues, which is appreciated by everybody here.”
