Leicestershire played their second game of the 2021 SET20 campaign against Derbyshire at Kibworth CC on Wednesday 2 June. We played our first game last Monday against today’s opponents at the Incora County Ground, Derby, the hosts winning by 37 runs.
On a glorious summers day at Kibworth, Derbyshire were again victorious, this time by 32 runs.
Tom Wood won the toss for Derbyshire, and elected to bat. Derbyshire made 151-9 from their allocated 20 overs. Fynn Hudson-Prentice top scored with 60 (46b), his half century coming up from 41 balls (5x4/1x6). Gavin Griffiths 3-24 and George Rhodes 3-28 were the pick of the Leicestershire bowlers. Arron Lilley weighed in with 1-26, and there were 2 run outs.
In their reply Leicestershire were never at the races, reduced to 27-5 from 5.4 overs, and subsequently 52-7 from 11.2 overs. Sam Bates 41 (40b) gave resistance in the lower middle order, supported by Gavin Griffiths 24* (22b), the pair adding 33 for the 9th wicket, the highest partnership of the innings. County closed on 119-9 from their allocated 20 overs. Leg spinner Matthew McKiernan taking 3-13 for Derbyshire.
