Shreck: "We knew we could get wickets with the new ball"

An audio interview with Charlie Shreck with BBC Radio Leicester’s Richard Rae is available HERE. Thanks to Paul Hiscock from the Press Association for his work again too, and to Ed Melia for the photograph.

It was a special day at Chelmsford for Leicestershire seamer Charlie Shreck, who recorded his first five-wicket haul for the club as well as claiming his 500th first-class wicket.

Shreck already has 27 LV=CC wickets this summer and he was quick to praise fellow seamers Clint McKay and Ben Raine at the end of a day in which Leicestershire held their nerve to maintain a good position.

Shreck said: “There was a little bit of anxiety when Tom Westley and Ryan ten Doeschate were going so well but there was no panic because we always felt we could get wickets with the new ball. And that’s what happened.

“Clint McKay and Ben Raine bowled extremely well to exert pressure early on and I think it’s the best we have performed as a unit.

“There is a sense of excitement in the dressing-room that we can go on to victory but it’s vital that we keep calm to get over the line.”

Charlie has been a big influence on the club since his arrival at the start of the 2013 season, and everybody at Grace Road would like to congratulate him on the fine achievement of reaching 500 wickets in his first-class career.
