Steel Stars as Honours Even in SET20 Double Header

Leicestershire began their 2022 SET20 campaign with a ‘Double Header’ against Lancashire at Kibworth CC. Honours were even on the day, with Lancashire winning the opening game, and Leicestershire winning game two.

Game 1

Arron Lilley skippered Leicestershire, who won the toss and chose to field. Lancashire posted 140-9 from their allotted 20 overs. Danny Lamb (30) 20b was the leading run scorer for the Red Rose county, Roman Walker picking up 3-26 from three overs for the Foxes.

In reply, Leicestershire were dismissed for 117 from 19 overs. Scott Steel (35) 29b and Tom Scriven (30) 32b, scoring over half of the side’s runs between them. Paceman Richard Gleeson taking 3-23 from 3 overs. Lancashire winning by 23 runs.

Game 2

Lilley again won the toss for Leicestershire, but this time chose to bat. Game two was subject to a delayed start of 45 minutes due to a heavy shower. Steel (24) 14b, Nick Welch (29) 24b, and Lilley (27) 12b, at the top of the order, got the innings off to a solid start. Scriven (26) 22b and Sam Bates (24) 20b, subsequently posted the only 50 partnership (33b) of the day. Leicestershire were dismissed for 148 from 18.1 overs, losing their last five wickets in 2.1 overs.

Seamer Danny Lamb returning career-best SET20 figures with 5-18 from 3.1 overs. In reply, Lancashire were dismissed for 99 in 16.3 overs. Leicestershire winning by 49 runs. Steel taking 3-25 from his four overs to add to his contribution with the bat in both of Leicestershire’s innings.

Sincere thanks again to all at Kibworth CC for accommodating us for a number of days in early season. Chrissy, Tom, and Steve very much ‘front of house’, but thank you to all the unseen volunteers as well from everyone at Leicestershire County Cricket Club. See you again in August.
