Parents, carers and families with children aged four to 11 are reminded there is still time to get involved with Move it-Boom!, the latest innovative summer activity craze.
The challenged launched by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust at the beginning of July, encourages children and families to have fun getting active through an interactive game and local parks featured on the health for kids website.
Families can log on to www.healthforkids.co.uk/moveitboom to find what activities parks across Leicester and Leicestershire offer and add further parks/play areas/green spaces that they know of near them.
Kids are encouraged to keep a log of their activity adventures by using the online diary and are awarded digital badges for each achievement they log. So far, the site has had over 22,000 views over since launching in July.
The website hosts a range of indoor and outdoor activities and there is something for everyone, regardless of their abilities. Features include an activity spinner, an interactive adventure game and a parks activity finder, all supported by fun characters along the way.
The challenge is being supported by Leicestershire County Cricket Club, who are giving away a free cricket coaching session and VIP tour of the club to the school with the most completed challenges. Free tickets to T20 matches will be awarded to the runners up.
Margaret Clarke, senior nurse and professional school nursing lead for LPT (Queens Nurse), said: “As with all our projects, this unique campaign has been designed with the input of local school children. So far we have had an astonishing response with more than 800 children registered and actively taking part in the summer parks activity adventure. So far, the webpage has had 22,000 visits too.
“Even if you only go to a few parks, the main idea is to get active – indoors or outdoors – by having fun with the activities and completing the island adventure game. We want as many young people to get involved as possible. So why don’t you join us!”
Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “It is great that the campaign has had success so far with so many children registering online as this is a fantastic initiative that we are delighted to be supporting.
“Leicestershire and Rutland has a number of great parks and it’s a great way of enjoying the nice weather. There’s also the chance to win tickets to a game at Grace Road, so make sure you sign up and get involved if you haven’t already.”
