Successful evening with Mervyn King

Leicestershire County Cricket Club was delighted to welcome Mervyn King, former Governor of the Bank of England, to the Fischer County Ground for an exclusive business dinner last night.

The Charles Palmer Suite was full for the black tie event which saw a delicious three-course menu served to our guests.

A number of local and national businesses came to listen to Lord King and ask some questions as he gave a fascinating insight into the global economy.

Former Leicestershire star bowler Jonathan Agnew compered the evening and Dr Nik Kotecha, of club sponsors Morningside Pharmaceuticals, conducted the Q & A with Lord King.

Lord King also signed copies of his new book The End of Alchemy: Money, Banking and the Future of the Global Economy which was sold through Waterstones of Leicester on the night.

The evening’s entertainment included a special auction conducted by former Foxes legend Paul Nixon of some autographed 1999 ICC World Cup shirts from captains of the teams.

These included winning skipper Steve Waugh (Australia), Brian Lara (West Indies), Mohammad Azharuddin (India), Wasim Akram (Pakistan), Hansie Cronje (South Africa), Arjuna Ranatunga (Sri Lanka) and Aminul Islam (Bangladesh).

Leicestershire CCC Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “It was a fantastic evening and an honour for us to welcome Mervyn to the Fischer County Ground.

“Everybody had an enjoyable evening with excellent food and conversation and we’d like to thank Mervyn for taking the time to come to visit us.”
