Super Sayer helps Barrow to stunning win

Last weekend’s Everards Leicestershire and Rutland Premier League fixtures included a stunning victory for Barrow Town as Rob Sayer hit 107* in a superb nine-wicket win over Kibworth.

Sayer was ably supported by Jack Nightingale, who has played for the club’s Second XI this season. Nightingale scored 63* in an unbroken stand worth 160.

Kibworth batted first and made 229 all out. Matt Craven top scored with 56, his third half-century in succession, and Barrow’s spinners, including Sayer, took all ten wickets to fall. Rishi Patel was the most successful bowler, finishing with figures of 4 wickets for just 32 runs.

Barkby United had a winning draw as they took on Leicester Ivanhoe on Saturday. Ian Kirk scored 112 and Ben Silver scored 54 as Barkby ended on 271-6, Imran Khan was the stand out bowler for Leicester Ivanhoe taking 3-19. 

In reply, Leicestershire’s Sam Evans top-scored for Leicester Ivanhoe with 65 and Academy batsman/’keeper Harry Swindells continued his fine start to the season with 47. 

Barkby couldn’t claim Ivanhoe’s final wicket as they managed to hold on reaching 249-9 off their 50 overs, Aiden Morris was Barkby’s stand out bowler taking 3-62 off his allocated 10 overs.

League leaders Kegworth suffered defeat at the hands of Syston. Batting first, Kegworth reached 215-7 with Danny Murty top scoring with 68. Syston reached their target for the loss of just four wickets, Charles Wootton scoring 71 while Daniel Vernon followed up his 64 last week with 55* to guide Syston to a six-wicket win.

Market Harborough were comfortable winners against Lutterworth Town. Market Harborough scored 249-6, wicket-keeper/batsman Joe Kendall making 105 and Kevin Innes posting 50. This score proved too much for Lutterworth Town who were bowled out for 123, former fox Rob Taylor claiming 4-22 and Laurence Perry ending with figures of 4-25.

Loughborough Town batting first scored 250-9; captain Anish Patel top scored with 69 and Sam Stuckes scored 50. Leicestershire left arm spinner Callum Parkinson bowled 10 overs for just 18 runs and was by far Enderby’s most economical bowler.

Enderby were dismissed for just 94 as Academy player Ben Mike took 4-38 off 6.5 overs while Jacob Bailey, who has also represented the club’s Second XI this season, ended with 2-12 off seven overs.

Sileby Town ran out winners against bottom side Rothley Park, by a five-wicket margin. Batting first, Rothley made 215-9, Phil Hackett top-scoring with 39, in an innings that contained three sixes. Sileby skipper Jigar Naik bowled ten overs for 29, claiming two wickets, and Chris Trevis took three for 50 off nine overs.

Opener Dave Torr was crucial at the top of the order for Sileby his 56 came from 63 balls and included nine fours. Mitchell Buck scored 44* and his 30-run partnership with Josh Winterton (12*) saw their side home. Gavin Griffiths opened the bowling for Rothley Park and he bowled 10 overs for 50 runs, taking one wicket.
