Supporters enjoy Open Day

A good crowd saw Leicestershire and Kent played out an entertaining day’s cricket at the Fischer County Ground, Grace Road on the club’s Open Day.

The club decided to run the event on the opening matchday of the season following last year’s success against Glamorgan and this one was also well-received, with more than 1,300 people coming through the gates.

It was the first major opportunity for Members and supporters to see the new floodlights and other ground development work with the FCG having been transformed during the winter.

Kent closed on 227-7 after winning the toss so it was another good day for Leicestershire, who started the season in fine style with a 10-wicket victory at Glamorgan last week.

Leicestershire CCC Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “It was great to see so many people come to the Fischer County Ground yesterday and we’d love to see you return throughout the summer as there will be fun for all of the family.

“We have six floodlit NatWest T20 Blast games, another T20 game on a Saturday late afternoon, an Elton John concert, an England Women’s ODI and lots more cricket action, so please come down and support us this summer.”

There were fun activities for the whole family throughout the course of the afternoon. Charlie Fox Members enjoyed a coaching session in the Mike Turner Indoor Centre during the day and there was the opportunity to see the Royal Air Force, a Richard III Exhibition and receive advice from Leicester City Council’s Health & Wellbeing department.

A treasure hunt, balloon modelling and an arts & crafts stall ran during the day and a bouncy castle and face painting was also on offer for children.

The extended Charles Palmer Restaurant was fully booked and the Friends of Grace Road enjoyed a lot of custom with tea, coffee and homemade cakes on sale during the afternoon.

Leicestershire CCC would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who came to Open Day. We would be pleased if people would consider coming to further games in the future or consider being a Member at the club.
