Surrey game abandoned

The first Royal London One Day Cup match of the season at Grace Road between Leicestershire Foxes and Surrey was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

It was dry and bright early at Grace Road but rain arrived at 10am and although it briefly stopped to entertain thoughts of a toss at 10.45am, heavier precipitation arrived.

Heavy and persistent rain was due for the rest of the day and sadly the forecast was again proved to be right, just as it was on Friday evening during the Nottinghamshire Outlaws NatWest T20 Blast match.

Umpires Steve Garratt and Mark Benson kept their eye on the situation and conducted inspections throughout the day but they had no choice but to call the game off at 2.15pm. The teams took one point each from the abandonment.

Ticket purchasers for today’s game are able to swap their match ticket for another Royal London One Day Cup fixture against Gloucestershire (Friday, July 31), Durham Jets (Thursday, August 6) or Somerset (Tuesday, August 18) or for any day of an LV=CC match.
