Thanawala's Double Ton Helps Set U15 Records Tumbling

Leicestershire CCC’s Under 15 Girls set records tumbling after posting 320 in their Royal London County One Day Cup fixture against Lincolnshire earlier this month.

The total was the largest ever by the side, spearheaded by an imperious unbeaten 206 from captain Prisha Thanawala, the highest individual score made by an U15 girl in LCCC’s history.

Thanawala’s sensational double hundred came off just 155 balls, including 35 fours and one maximum, helping to surpass her previous best score of 104 not out against Derbyshire last summer.

The 15-year-old’s inspired innings rescued the side from a perilous position at 73 for five, guiding them to 320 after just 39.3 overs, buoyed by a record-setting last-wicket stand of 106 with Caitlin Claasz, the team’s highest ever 11th-wicket partnership.

The skipper’s knock set the Girls on their way to a 202-run victory over Lincolnshire at Belvoir, the largest victory margin in the side’s history.

Reflecting on her achievement, Thanawala said: “It felt absolutely incredible to reach the milestone. I’ve gained so much experience throughout this season and it’s really improved my game.
“I couldn’t have done it without the support and contribution of my teammates, so I’m very grateful to them.”

A prodigious talent, Thanawala has progressed through the age groups at Leicestershire and has played above her age pool throughout the 2022 season, hitting her maiden Under 18s ton in July, also against Lincolnshire.

She averages 35.44 across the age groups for the Running Foxes, which has earned the all-rounder opportunities in both the LCCC Women’s First XI and the Lightning Cricket Academy setup.

Andy Hibberd, LCCC U15’s Head Coach, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to watch Prisha’s fabulous unbeaten double century.

“At one stage, the girls were in trouble, but Prisha’s counter-attacking effort showed her ability to change matches.

“She has continued to show brilliant progress and I have been delighted to see that recognised through her selection in the Lightning Academy games this season”.
