Leicestershire County Cricket Club is pleased to announce a vital sponsorship deal for the Academy with Vartan Ravenscroft.

There are currently 15 Academy players between the ages of 16 to 19 on the programme including opener Sam Evans, left arm seamer David Sayer and wicket-keeper Harry Swindells, who are in their second year.

Five players moved up from the Leicestershire Young Cricketers including Barrow Town trio Jack Nightingale, Yuvraj Odedra and Jayshal Chauhan, Leicester Ivanhoe all-rounder Jack Gilford, and Teddy Read of Broomleys.

Will Fazakerley, Leo Cammish, Henry Dobson, Shoaib Akhtar, Tom Nightingale, Aadil Rashid and Joseph Emanuel also joined the Academy for 2016.

Vartan Ravenscroft is a leading stockbroking and investment management firm based in the precincts of Peterborough Cathedral and the sponsorship will be used to help facilitate the Academy training programme.

It runs from October through to May and sees the lads training at the Fischer County Ground, Grace Road at least three times per week. The sponsorship will also support the summer fixture programme, with a busy period of matches coming up.

Leicestershire CCC Academy Director Nic Pothas said: “We are extremely grateful to Vartan Ravenscroft for their support of our Academy programme.

“This additional funding has meant we have been able to increase the number of fixtures that will be played during the summer.  Actual match play is vitally important in the development of young players.

“The Academy Programme is an important part of the pathway in developing the future stars of Leicestershire CCC and we look forward to working with Vartan Ravenscroft.”

Andrew Vartan, CEO of Vartan Ravenscroft, said the Ravenscroft Group had a long association with cricket and had given considerable financial support to younger players.

“Vartan Ravenscroft’s parent in the Channel Islands has invested significantly in the sport and had worked closely with Nic while he lived in Guernsey. We have seen first-hand his dedication to talented young cricketers and the results that have come from his involvement,” he said.

“When Nic moved to Leicestershire, it seemed a natural decision for Vartan Ravenscroft, which is based close by in Peterborough, to play a part in giving young players the chance to compete more regularly.

“We’re sure that under Nic’s leadership, it’s only a matter of time before some of the Academy side are called up to the first team and to represent England.”
