The Running Foxes are delighted to announce the signing of talented allrounder Roman Walker from Glamorgan.
The 20-year-old has penned a permanent contract that will start ahead of the 2022 season, and the two clubs have also agreed a loan deal that will see Walker join up with Leicestershire for the remainder of the current campaign.
Walker will be eligible for all formats but won’t feature in the game between Leicestershire and Glamorgan in the Royal London Cup on Thursday, August 5.
The Wrexham-born seamer made 11 appearances for Glamorgan, where he has spent the whole of his career after signing a first professional deal as an 18-year-old in 2019.
A tall and accurate pace bowler, Walker is also dangerous with the bat, as demonstrated by hitting two notable maximums in the List A format to twice see his side over the line.
Walker made his List A and T20 debuts in that same year, notably claiming the wickets of Tom Banton and Jamie Overton against Somerset at Taunton in the shortest format.
Walker has since gone on to claim eleven further T20 wickets, bring his total to 13 at an average of 19, with an economy rate of 8.27. His career best of three for 15 came through four high-quality overs against Somerset at Cardiff earlier this month.
Having shown lots of potential both in First XI and Second XI cricket, Walker caught the eye of Head Coach Paul Nixon and his backroom staff at the Uptonsteel County Ground.
Upon joining the Running Foxes, Walker said: “I am really looking forward to the future with the Running Foxes. I’m joining the Club to maximise my development as a player which will hopefully transpire into some good performances on the park for the team.
“I was keen to sign a long-term contract and commit my future to the Club as I believe trophies are not too far way and I want to play a part in the continued growth and success.
“I want to thank Paul Nixon for showing interest in me and I cannot wait for the chance to prove my worth to him, the rest of the Club, my teammates and the supporters. I cannot wait to get going!"
Nixon said: “Roman is a talented fast bowler with a huge amount of potential. He has demonstrated his ability at Glamorgan in the white ball competitions this year with quality spells showing good pace, bounce and carry. Roman has bowled at challenging times of the innings in T20 cricket and has a great attitude.
“We look forward to Roman being part of our squad, and would like to thank Glamorgan for allowing him to join on loan for the rest of the 2021 season."
