Move it-Boom!, the latest innovative summer parks craze, has launched from Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. The Trust is inviting all primary school children, parents, families and carers to take part in an active parks adventure.
The challenge is to visit local parks across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, and complete as many of the activity challenges on www.healthforkids.co.uk.
There is something for everyone, regardless of their abilities. Children will be able to log this activity online to score digital badges, and complete a fun new online game that encourages further activity and takes them through island adventures meeting fun and crazy characters along the way.
Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket is supporting the challenge, including giving away a cricket taster session to the school that completes the most challenges! The winning school will receive a session of cricket coaching and a VIP tour of the club. Free tickets to T20 matches will be awarded to the runners-up.
The health for kids website will feature an interactive game and map online so kids, with their parents/carers or family can find their local parks, see what activities they offer and add further parks/play areas/green spaces that they know of near them. Kids can keep a log of the adventures they’ve been on using the online diary and for each achievement they reach or activity they log, they’ll earn a badge.
The accompanying new interactive game on the www.healthforkids.co.uk website will allow kids to get involved further with the adventures, inspiring them to get creative with their activity whilst finding the missing treasure stolen by the naughty pirate. They’ll meet helpful friends along the way as they jump from island to island collecting clues and as they are set physical challenges to do at home or in their local park.
Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “This is a fantastic initiative and we are delighted to be supporting it. Leicestershire and Rutland has a number of great parks and it’s a great way of enjoying the lovely weather.
“Not only is it good fun, there’s also the chance to win tickets to a game at Grace Road, so make sure you sign up today and get involved!”
Margaret Clarke, senior nurse and professional school nursing lead for LPT (Queens Nurse), said: “As with all our projects, this unique campaign has been designed closely with school children. Posters and postcards will be distributed to schools across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland this week to ensure as many youngsters and their families get involved as possible.
“Even if you only go to a few parks, the main idea is to get active – indoors or outdoors – by having fun with the activities and completing the island adventure game. We need your support to spread the message as wide as possible, family, friends, friends of friends, and colleagues. We want as many young people to get involved as possible. It’s set to be a really exciting adventure. So why don’t you join us!”

The winners of the Move it–Boom! challenge will be announced at the end of the summer/autumn when children are back at school. A special celebration event will take place, where all schools will be invited, to take part in one last challenge; either an attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the most number of people doing star jumps in one location or the number of star jumps completed in 60 seconds?
