Will Davis Signs New Leicestershire Deal

Leicestershire CCC is happy to announce seamer Will Davis has signed a contract extension with the Club ahead of the 2023 season.

The 26-year-old has taken 77 wickets across the formats since his arrival from Derbyshire in the winter of 2018, with 51 of those claimed in first-class cricket.

Davis made an instant impact in his maiden first-class campaign for the Foxes, taking 29 wickets at 32.89, while he later recorded his career-best match figures of 8 for 87 against Middlesex at Merchant Taylors' School in 2021.

The Staffordshire-born bowler has also shown his white-ball pedigree, with a clinical display of death bowling securing a crucial win against the Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston in June, while he featured as an ever-present in the Club’s run to the quarter-finals of the 2020 Vitality Blast.

As he heads into his fifth season at Uptonsteel County Ground, Davis is the latest bowler to extend his stay, with Chris Wright and South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder also putting pen to paper ahead of next summer.

The trio will further contribute to a competitive bowling attack that has also seen the additions of Michael Finan, Matt Salisbury, and Academy graduate Josh Hull in recent months.

Discussing his new deal and his winter work, Davis said: “I’m very happy to sign a new deal with the Foxes.

“We’re all working hard to get ourselves in the best place for next summer, so hopefully those efforts result in some big rewards next year.

“Individually, I’m always listening to new ideas and trying to improve technically and tactically. I’m aiming to bring a bit of pace back into my game and hopefully help get the team some wins next year.”

Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, added: “Will has shown a lot of determination, and we know the levels of skill and fight he can bring in all three formats.

“The winter months present a really good opportunity for Will to work closely with (Lead Bowling Coach) Alfonso Thomas and we look forward to seeing his development ahead of next season.”
