Katie Winterton has become the inaugural Leicestershire Women’s player to receive the prestigious ‘Gold Fox’ county cap.
Winterton was presented with her cap, alongside a specially printed ‘Winterton 100’ LCCC shirt, by Head Coach Stephen Franklin to commemorate a century of appearances for the side earlier this month during the team’s fixture at Hertfordshire.
The 23-year-old, who captains the side across both formats, is just the second player to reach the 100-match milestone, following in the footsteps of Harriet Leach.
Reflecting on the achievement, Winterton said: “To become the first Women’s player to receive the Golden Fox cap is a huge honour which I am extremely proud and grateful of.
“Not only is this a huge accomplishment for me, but it shows the progression and direction that women’s cricket is going in at Leicestershire.
“I would like to thank everyone involved, not only in my years playing for Leicestershire, but for the staff who made the day extra special.â€
Winterton debuted against Ireland in 2011 at Stoughton and Thurnby CC when she was aged 13, accumulating a further 99 appearances for the Women’s senior team since.
A decade of service has seen the versatile batter represent the Club on 184 occasions across the age groups, with her maiden hundred coming in victory for the Under 17s over Warwickshire in 2017.
In a season of firsts for the Women’s side, Winterton skippered the team to victory on their maiden appearance at Uptonsteel County Ground during T20 Finals Day last month.
Women’s Head Coach, Stephen Franklin, said: “The Club was incredibly keen to recognise Katie’s outstanding contribution to the side and awarding her with a ‘Gold Fox’ cap seemed very fitting.
“Katie has always led by example and is a role model for the rest of the squad, who look up to her.
“A hundred appearances is a phenomenal achievement and we look forward to many more in a Leicestershire shirt.â€
