Leicestershire County Cricket Club Academy will be entering teams into League Cup competitions within the Leicestershire area for the first time in its history.
There are three tournaments in which the LCCC Academy can participate; the County Cup, the Challenge Cup and the T20 bowl.
The County Cup is the premier 40-over competition in which teams from every division, including the Premier Division, will compete for the coveted prize. The final takes place at the Uptonsteel County Ground.
Alastair Maiden and his Academy coaches will be entering their top team of Academy scholars and Under 18 talent to compete in the challenging County Cup competition.
The amount of cricket involved within the three competitions will give opportunities to a number of age groups within the Academy pathway ranging from the Academy Scholars to the Under 15s.
Head of Academy at Leicestershire County Cricket Club, Alastair Maiden is pleased to have been accepted into the competitions. He said: “To be able to have the Leicestershire CCC Academy participate in League cup competitions this season is huge for the Club.
“No Academy teams at Leicestershire have ever had the chance to take part in Leicestershire Club competitions, and the opportunity to test themselves against new opponents will be pivotal to their development.
"Leicestershire CCC have recently updated our values and goals, with huge emphasis placed upon becoming the Academy of Cricket. This term is in reference to not only our development of local players, but also a club where people are striving to improve, learn and get better.
"The Running Foxes are keen for people to see LCCC as a place to really drive themselves forward and a place full of opportunity."
Maiden and his team in the Academy are also very keen to
improve the Club’s relationship and standing in our local cricket community. He
commented further: “The big driving force for us playing teams in the league is
to have our Academy players compete against senior cricketers who are generally
more experienced, tactically aware and have better game sense.
“This provides a huge learning opportunity for our cricketers, but also the chance to rebuild the Club’s relationships with local cricket clubs.
“We are really looking forward to an exciting summer of cricket.â€
The draw for the competitions will take place in the near future as a result of recent Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), which took place at the Uptonsteel County Ground on Thursday, January 27, 2022.
