Your Summer of Foxes Cricket is Finally Here!

Your mouth-watering summer of Leicestershire cricket has finally been announced, with the Uptonsteel County Ground welcoming some of the world’s biggest names in 2022.

Stealing the headlines are on of the highest-ranked Test teams in the world, as India head to Leicester in the height of the 2022 campaign.

The season gets underway with the LV= Insurance County Championship at home on Thursday, April 7, as Leicestershire take on Worcestershire at the Uptonsteel County Ground. The Running Foxes will be looking to build on an impressive 2021 campaign and push East Midlands Rivals, Nottinghamshire CCC for promotion into Division One.

The addition of South African international Wiaan Mulder is enough to get any cricket fan excited, with the allrounder looking integral to Leicestershire’s fortunes in both first-class and 50-over cricket.

Red ball cricket then breaks for the explosive Vitality Blast with the Running Foxes kicking off their 2022 T20 campaign at home under floodlights against Durham Cricket on Thursday 28 May.

Last season saw the Running Foxes finish with the highest wicket taker and run scorer in the competition, and we look to push those numbers even further in our quest for an unprecedented fourth T20 title.

Naveen ul Haq returns to Leicestershire to build on the 26 wickets he claimed last year and he is bringing his compatriot with him. One of the most exciting white ball talents in the world will also be appearing in the green of Leicestershire, as Rahmanullah Gurbaz’ sensational 2021 spills into 2022 with his first taste of English domestic cricket.

Paul Nixon and Leicestershire’s renewed T20 philosophy of ‘heavy metal cricket’ is on track to set the 2022 Vitality Blast alight.

If you were not at Edgbaston for Paul Nixon’s unbelievable catch in the 2011 T20 final, or if you missed Colin Ackermann’s record breaking 7 for 18 against Birmingham Bears in 2019, make sure you do not miss one tantalising delivery in the Vitality Blast this year!

In one of the biggest events for the City of Leicester this summer, the Uptonsteel County Ground will welcome one of the world’s best Test sides as India take on the Running Foxes in a thrilling four day warm up match on Friday, June 24, ahead of their Test match against England.

The Royal London Cup then returns on Tuesday, August 2, as the Leicestershire Foxes begin their 50-over campaign against Surrey, with Lewis Hill aiming to carry his red hot form in the competition into the 2022 campaign.

Lutterworth native Hill captained his home county in the absence of Colin Ackermann and Callum Parkinson in 2021 and led from the front, eclipsing the 1,000 career List A run mark.

With overseas signing Wiaan Milder eligible to feature for Leicestershire in the upcoming edition of one-day cricket, the Running Foxes have their eyes firmly set on silverware in this competition.
