Leicestershire batters Francesca Sweet and Hayley Brown both scored their maiden centuries as the Foxes claimed a victory away from home against Derbyshire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.
Another week and another opening partner for Brooker, who won the toss and elected to bat. This time, she found herself alongside Lucy Weston. A cover drive for four was a confidence booster for Brooker, who was looking to make the most of her run of form, but she fell for 8 as she edged one behind and wicketkeeper Pittman took a sharp catch.
Brown joined Weston in the middle and runs began to flow. Weston was the aggressor, striking seven boundaries on her way to 31, until she chipped one to midwicket and McDonald claimed her first wicket. Leicestershire were 62/2 after 12 overs.
That brought Sweet to the crease, and she quickly got to work. Before long, the 50 partnership came and went as Sweet and Brown piled on the runs. The Leicestershire batters scored with ease, and with license to go big on a free hit, Cesca Sweet brought up her maiden hundred with an edge for four ” helmet off, arms raised.
The two were in cruise control, with Brown anchoring the innings while Sweet played her strokes. Sweet eventually fell for 138, stumped by Pittman after some sharp glovework. Their 220-run stand is the highest ever partnership for Leicestershire Women since records began.
Watson (8) came in during the 43rd over but was quickly dismissed, caught off the bowling of Hardwick ” who had earlier removed Sweet. Bennett joined Brown, who was closing in on her milestone. Needing 8 off the final over, she scooped for four before thumping through midwicket to reach her century. After losing a loved one not long ago, this was a truly special moment for Brown ” and there wasn’t a dry eye around the ground.
Leicestershire closed their innings on 335/4 from 50 overs.
Derbyshire’s reply started brightly with six runs from the first three deliveries. But Thatcher struck with her fourth ball, swinging one back to bowl Couser (6).
Nightingale came in at three to join Shaw, and the pair added 22 before Shaw was undone by Phillips’ inswing and dismissed for 12. Derbyshire were in need of a partnership.
Porter attempted to support Nightingale but struggled to get going, eventually feathering one through to Bennett off Whitfield’s first delivery for 6. Allen provided a handy 23 before Whitfield struck again, bowling her through the gate.
Spin proved decisive as Roff took two wickets in two overs. First, Pittman was bowled around her legs for 3, before the big wicket of Nightingale, who was trapped in front for a well-made 78 while attempting to sweep.
Weston then joined the attack, removing Knowling-Davies (20), Parkin (11) and McDonald (4). Herathge wrapped things up as Bennett completed another smart stumping, removing Hardwick (1).
It was a fitting way to end the final away match of the 2025 season, with the Foxes sealing a 126-run victory.
