Exciting Academy prospect Alex Green has caught the eye once again, after impressing in a duo of Young Lions 50-over warm-up fixtures.
Opening the bowling, the 16-year-old starred with economical figures of 7.2-1-27-2 in the first match, before taking 3/35 the following day in a rain-affected 35 overs per side fixture.
Green, a 6ft 6†fast bowler who generates noticeable pace and bounce, has enjoyed an outstanding 2023 campaign, registering 52 wickets at just 17.87 for the Academy.
Half a dozen of those 52 poles brought about the teenager’s first five-wicket haul, returning 6/42 during July’s draw with Derbyshire in the ECB U18 County Championship.
Green’s selection is the latest recognition of his precocious talent, with the Academy Scholar picked for the prestigious 2022 Bunbury Festival, while he was also named U15 Bowler of the Year for Leicestershire last year.
Head of Talent Pathway Jigar Naik, who was also involved as a coach during the Young Lions fixtures, said: “It was fantastic to see Greeny do so well in a pressured environment where he was competing against his best peers in the country.
“Alex has had a phenomenal season, taking over 50 wickets for the U18s, and it was great to see him earn recognition with these two games.
“He performed really well across both matches and I hope to see him take those learnings into the winter.â€
The fixtures, which pit the country’s most highly rated under 15s through to under 17s against each other, took place at Loughborough University’s Haslegrave Ground at the end of September.
