Ahmed Wins PCA July Player of the Month Award

A spectacular all-round month has seen Leicestershire star Rehan Ahmed win the Men’s PCA Player of the Month Award for the first time.

The Foxes’ all-rounder secured a staggering 57 per cent of the public vote to finish ahead of Worcestershire’s Ethan Brookes, Lancashire’s Chris Green and Surrey’s Will Jacks for July’s trophy.

Ahmed was in red-hot form for Leicestershire, scoring 427 runs at an average of 71.16 “ including back-to-back Championship hundreds - and taking 16 wickets, featuring a phenomenal 13-wicket haul in the win over Derbyshire.

The 20-year-old also impressed in the Vitality Blast, picking up a Match MVP for his unbeaten 52 off 30 balls during Leicestershire’s six-wicket triumph over Northamptonshire Steelbacks.

On collecting July’s POTM, Ahmed said: “I’m very proud to win this award. A lot of big names have won this trophy, so it’s a big honour.

“I’ve put in a lot of hard work over the winter “ on both my batting and my bowling - so it’s nice to get into this kind of form and reap the rewards for it.

“We’ve been doing very well as a team all year, so hopefully we can end the season strongly and get into Division One.”

Ahmed accepted the award while representing Trent Rockets in The Hundred. He will return to Uptonsteel County Ground ahead of the final three Rothesay County Championship fixtures next month.
