Dear Leicestershire Supporters,
After deep consideration, I have made the difficult decision to step down as Club captain at the end of the 2024 season.
As a Leicester lad, it has been an incredible honour and privilege to lead my home county over the past four seasons. As a team, we have achieved some remarkable accomplishments, none greater than last season’s Metro Bank One Day Cup triumph at Trent Bridge “ a day I, and the Club, will cherish forever. Lifting that trophy was the proudest moment of my career, and to share that with you and my teammates was extremely rewarding.
As a squad, we have made significant strides forwards in recent seasons, and that is testament to the unwavering dedication of our players and coaching staff. Leicestershire is now competing in all three formats again, and expectations of success are higher than at any point in my time here. The future is certainly bright for our Club.
I have received a lot of exceptional support during my time as captain. I am incredibly fortunate to have received the expert mentorship and guidance of Claude Henderson, as well as Alfonso Thomas and the entire coaching staff at Leicestershire.
I would also like to express my deep gratitude to my wife; Jo, and Daughter; Rosie, for their unconditional support through the highs and lows of being a professional cricketer “ especially in the past couple of seasons when more time was dedicated to the demands of the role.
I hope I’ve made people proud, and I’d like to think I’ve left the role in a better place. I am already looking forward to supporting our next captain and, most importantly, continuing to contribute to success for Leicestershire in the seasons ahead.
Thank you again for your unwavering support throughout my time as Club captain, it has meant the world to me. Keep backing the Club and help us ensure Leicestershire continues to go from strength to strength. Let’s end the season on a high together against Derbyshire this week.
Yours Sincerely,
Lewis.
