Bright Horizons Ahead for Leicestershire Seniors Cricket

The curtain came down on the 2025 Seniors season with a resounding success in the Over 60s First XI Vase competition.

Take a look at last month’s newsletter for a report. In line with what is happening with the Leicestershire CCC first team, our horizon is looking as bright as it has done in some years. We are anticipating an influx of new talent as certain players around the county reach that age where, not all that long ago, most of us would hang up our boots and take up umpiring. That wasn’t necessarily dependent on 20/20 vision in all cases, of course! If you fall into this category, or you know somebody who is, please contact the seniors’ secretary in the first instance via email: secretary.lrcccs@gmail.com.

Plans are already in place for 2026. Once again we will be running six teams: two at Over 50; three at Over 60 and an Over 70s side. We travel all over the wider Midlands region in the first place, and then could find ourselves anywhere in the country once the national knockout phase begins. The 50s play on Wednesdays, the 60s on Tuesdays and the 70s on Thursdays. Our home games take place at a range of Leicestershire club grounds. We always have two qualified umpires and a couple of valiant scorers. The end of the matches very often feels like a throw-back to previous days when we share a drink among ourselves and, more importantly, with the opposition, and relive the golden moments and some of the mishaps too.

Our winter nets will commence on Friday 9th January, from 9-11am at the indoor school, Grace Road. (At the time of writing we are hoping that a second weekly session will also happen).
