Budinger Passes Fifty On Testing Day For 2s

It proved a very good day for the White Rose County on day three of the SEC clash between Yorkshire and Leicestershire. The Foxes being dismissed for 182 in their first innings, Sol Budinger top scoring 64. Yorkshire closing on 258-1, leading by 76 runs.
Play was again unable to start on time at Scarborough CC. After inspections by the umpires at 10.00am, and 11.00am, due to a wet outfield, play eventually commenced at 12 noon with a minimum of 88 overs available in the day. Noah Kelly took over as wicket keeper for Yorkshire for the absent Joe Thompson.
Leicestershire resumed from their overnight 73-1. Budinger 33* Harry Swindells 30*, in cold and somewhat windy conditions. In the second over of the morning Swindells (30) was caught behind by keeper Kelly off the bowling of Ben Cliff. Cliff coming out of the shadows to dismiss Swindells.
Over number 17, the 8th over of the morning, was a collector’s item. Budinger playing out a maiden! Budinger went to his 50 (4x4/1x6) (55b) when he drove Cliff to the long off boundary. Congratulations in order.
Matt Revis was introduced to the attack, and his first two overs brought him three wickets. Jamie Dunk (15) 35b went caught by keeper Kelly. Jay Madan (0) 4b was caught at second slip by Dom Bess, and Budinger (64) 66b also snaffled at second slip by Bess.
Budinger had hit the previous delivery for a huge maximum, whereby the match ball suffered some damage when it clattered into some seats, the ball was changed, and Budinger departed from the first delivery of the replacement ball. Leicestershire on 127-5 from 22.2 overs.
Leicestershire went into Lunch a couple of overs later on 128-5. Sam Wood 1*, Jake Tarling 0*. Tarling (0) 9b went to the first ball he faced after lunch, caught at second slip by Bess off Dom Leech. Wood (2) 22b was caught in the gully by Yash Vagadia off the bowling of Leech.
Yorkshire, and ex Leicestershire Coach, Tom Smith was called upon as a substitute fielder when Leech had to leave the field through injury. Smith almost taking an excellent running catch deep in the outfield from a skier soon after joining the fray.
Josh Hull (14) 25b was bowled by Revis. Alec McLoughlin then briefly set about the Yorkshire attack striking 31 (20b) before being caught at cover by Josh Hoyle off Bess. Julius Sumerauer (1) 7b was last man out when he was caught by Matt Firbank off Cliff. Dinuk de Silva (5*) 29b.
Leicestershire 182 all out from 40.4 overs at 2.57pm. Revis 8-1-30-4, and Cliff 12.4-2-43-3 the leading wicket takers for Yorkshire.
James Wharton and Yash Vagadia opened the innings for Yorkshire. Vagadia (6*) 7b unfortunately had to retire hurt when a delivery from Sam Wood crashed into his helmet via his bat after 2.5 overs. Vagadia initially carried on after being struck on the helmet but left the field after being assessed by the Yorkshire physio.
Will Luxton joined Wharton, and the pair dominated the Leicestershire bowling. Their 50 partnership arrived from 35 balls when the score reached 66-1 from 8.1 overs. Yorkshire went into Tea on 79-0 from 10 overs.
Just as the players were about to return to the field, it started raining. Play recommenced at 5pm with a 35 overs remaining. Wharton and Luxton brought up their 100 partnership (99b), the score on 114-0 from 18.2 overs.
Wharton went to his 50 (6x4/1x6) 58b, and in the next over Luxton also went to his 50 (7x4/2x6) 56b. Yorkshire on 122-0 from 19.2 overs. Six overs later Luxton (70) 80b was caught at mid on by Josh Hull off the bowling of seamer Julius Sumerauer. Julius seizing the opportunity to get his first wicket for the 2nd XI. Yorkshire on 148-1.
Matt Revis joined Wharton, and the pair posted a 50 partnership from 57b. Wharton then went to his 100 (9x4/4x6) 110b, when he steered a delivery from pace bowler Clarke Haddrell behind cover point for two. Yorkshire on 220-1 from 38.5 overs.
Wharton and Revis then brought up their 100 partnership (107b). In the next over, the last over of the session, Revis went to his 50 (6x4) 60b. Yorkshire ended the day on 258-1 from 45 overs, a lead of 76 runs. Wharton (117*) 129b, Revis (50*) 60b. Play finishing for the day at 7.21pm.
