Budinger Pens New Leicestershire Deal

Opener Sol Budinger has extended his stay with Leicestershire after penning a new one-year deal at Uptonsteel County Ground.

The 25-year-old made the switch from East Midlands rivals Nottinghamshire in 2022 and has gone on to score 1,756 runs across the formats in his two seasons as a Fox to date.

An explosive opener, Budinger has shone most for Leicestershire in List A cricket, recording 856 runs at an average of 42.8, including centuries in both campaigns against his home county, Essex.

He was also a near ever present in Leicestershire’s Vitality Blast setup in 2024, notching his maiden T20 fifty during the Foxes’ opening T20 fixture of the campaign and ending the group stage with a mighty strike rate of 152.21.

Opportunities in first-class cricket were harder to come by this summer, though Budinger ended with half-centuries in successive matches and a red-ball top score of 87 against Derbyshire in the final round of Championship fixtures.

Upon signing his new contract, Budinger told Foxes TV: “I’m very happy to continue my time here at Grace Road. I had a pretty good summer and now I’ve got a great opportunity for my cricket to develop further.

“We’re a close bunch of lads and we enjoy each other’s success, which is a great environment to be a part of. With the younger lads we’ve got coming through, it’s a very exciting team to be involved in.

“Every time you step onto the field you want to win a game and that never changes. I’ll try to perform and do well for the county every time I put on the shirt.”
