Callum Parkinson Suffers Injury Setback

Leicestershire spinner Callum Parkinson is set for a short spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury setback.

The 26-year-old wrestled with a side niggle during the final weeks of pre-season, forcing him to sit out the Foxes’ warm-up fixtures against Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire.

Sufficient progress during a return-to-bowling plan saw the left-armer included in both squads for the opening two rounds of the LV= Insurance County Championship, but despite his best efforts to overcome the niggle, he was deemed not fit enough for selection.

Further discomfort on the eve of the Derbyshire fixture led to a scan on Thursday, which revealed a side strain, meaning Parkinson’s anticipated return has been pushed back to May.

Commenting on the setback, Parkinson said: “After a winter of hard work, it’s really frustrating to pick up an injury just as the new season begins.

“It’s been great to see the lads make such a strong start to the summer and I’ll be working as hard as I can to get back out with them in the middle as soon as possible.”

In other injury news, Matt Salisbury is undertaking rehab on a calf injury sustained during Leicestershire’s win at Yorkshire and will be out for a few weeks, while overseas star Wiaan Mulder has made positive strides on a side niggle picked up back in South Africa and should be fit to bowl when the Foxes return to action against Glamorgan (27 April).
