Leicestershire County Cricket Club is celebrating a historic milestone after winning its first-ever Business of Cricket Award (BOCA) during Thursday evening’s ceremony at Edgbaston.
The annual awards night, which highlights excellence and key behind-the-scenes contributors across the first-class counties, saw the Club take home the prize for Best Development or New Facility Under £500k.
Awarded by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the prestigious accolade recognised the impressive transformation of the Club’s Pavilion over the past 18 months.
Work to achieve state-of-the-art facilities first began in January 2023 and was further enhanced across the course of the 2024 season, earning warm praise of players home and visiting players and officials alike.
The development significantly upgraded the infrastructure of the Pavilion at Uptonsteel County Ground. Key improvements include:
• Doubling the size of both home and away changing rooms, providing modern, spacious areas for teams.
• Adding a dedicated analyst space and physiotherapy area in the home changing room, as well as enhanced changing and wash facilities in both changing rooms.
• Tailored Leicestershire CCC inspirational artwork surrounding and inside the home changing room.
• Enhanced facilities for umpires, ensuring they have a comfortable and multi-use space.
• Upgrading Foxes TV’s live streaming room, improving the quality of the Club’s digital broadcasts for fans worldwide.
• A dedicated multi-faith space for players, reflecting the Club’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity.
Commenting on the award, Sean Jarvis, CEO of Leicestershire CCC, said: "Winning our first BOCA is a testament to our commitment to creating a world-class environment for everyone who visits or works at the Club.
“We possess game-leading facilities through our outdoor nets and playing surface, and this development further demonstrates our desire to improve the experience for players and officials when playing at Uptonsteel County Ground.
“Huge praise and congratulations must go to Dan Archer, our Stadium Manager, and all those involved in the project for making our initial plans a reality.â€
The Club extends its gratitude to everyone involved in the project and looks forward to building on this success to continue enhancing the cricketing experience at Uptonsteel County Ground.
