Leicestershire CCC all-rounder Colin Ackermann has been called up by Southern Brave for the remainder of The Hundred as a permanent replacement for Alex Davies.
Ackermann was originally drafted in on Saturday as a temporary replacement, but was made available for the Foxes’ Metro Bank One Day Cup fixtures against Hampshire and Essex after not being selected by the Brave in their nine-wicket victory over Welsh Fire.
The Netherlands international’s selection comes off the back of an impressive run of form for Leicestershire in the MB50, recording an unbeaten hundred against Lancashire Lightning on Friday evening and a match-winning 93 not out in Sunday’s win at Hampshire.
Ackermann currently sits sixth in the run-scoring charts, recording 292 runs at a mighty average of 97.33 to help the Foxes top Group A.
The 32-year-old holds previous experience in The Hundred, having represented Manchester Originals in the previous two iterations of the competition.
A debut against Birmingham Pheonix tonight would mean Ackermann would be unable to feature for Leicestershire in their final two group stage fixtures “ Middlesex on Friday and Yorkshire Vikings on Sunday.
Ackermann’s availability for the quarter-final stage of the One Day Cup is subject to Southern Brave’s final league position in The Hundred. Should the Foxes top Group A, Ackermann would be available for the semi-final stage on 29 August.
The all-rounder will link up with Leicestershire teammate Rehan Ahmed ahead of his potential debut for the franchise at The Ageas Bowl this evening.
