County Seniors Reflect on a Memorable 2025 Season at Presentation Night

On Friday 6th February the county seniors held their annual dinner and presentation evening at Beedles Lake Golf Centre, East Goscote. It was a splendid occasion and we were able to celebrate the successes from the 2025 season in admirable surroundings. After a delicious meal and entertainment from M.C. Steve Brooks, the awards for our players of the year were presented. A reminder that we run six teams during the season: two at Over 50, three at Over 60 and an Over 70s side. These awards were decided by a vote from the teammates of the winners and thus they reflect the value of each individual to the team. The winners are:

Over 50s 1st XI – Chris Hill. Over 50s 2nd XI – Jim Fowler.

Over 60s 1st XI – Craig Hendry. Over 60s 2nd XI – Mark Ward.

Over 60s 3rd XI – Andrew Sidebottom. Over 70s – Dave Perry.

Congratulations to each of them.

Two other important individual awards were made on the night. The Nigel Ling Trophy for long-term, meritorious service to the seniors section went to Paul Haywood. After his professional career with the county, Paul was instrumental in the early days of the seniors set up both as player and administrator. He continues to play a valuable and active part in his role as president. The inception of a new award – the Chris Larsen Trophy - occurred during the close season. This award is for the outstanding individual performance of the season and the first winner was Guy Rollins. In the quarter final of the Over 60s Vase competition against Hampshire, Guy made 100 runs and took four for 40 in the visitors’ reply to wrap up a very tight victory by a mere eight runs. Our 60s eventually went on to lift the trophy.

Indoor winter nets are being well-attended with half a dozen prospective new members having joined us. It won’t be long before the season is here and there are several reasons for a positive outlook and, who knows, more silverware come September. The competitive league season gets under way on 28th April and we’re raring to go!
