Leicestershire CCC is pleased to announce the signing of Hampshire bowler Scott Currie on a short-term loan until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old will be eligible for the Foxes’ final three LV= Insurance County Championship fixtures, starting at Sussex on Sunday.
A product of Hampshire’s youth system, Currie has taken 70 wickets from 44 appearances, while he has claimed 56 wickets at an average of 24.25 in the Second Eleven Championship.
The 6ft 5†tall seamer made his red-ball debut during the Bob Willis Trophy in the 2020 season, impressing with figures of 3/42 in his first showing with the ball.
Currie has also made an impact in white-ball cricket, snaring 19 wickets at just 12.84 as Hampshire reached Finals Day in the 2021 Vitality Blast, as well as 11 wickets at 25.45 en route to the final of the Metro Bank One Day Cup this summer.
The former England Under-19 star first caught the eye on the international stage, taking seven wickets at a miserly 13.86 during the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2020.
Currie already has connections at Uptonsteel County Ground, with the move set to reunite him with former Hampshire bowling coach Alfonso Thomas and ex-teammate Tom Scriven.
Discussing his loan switch, Currie said: “I’m delighted to be here. It’s been a while coming but it’s nice to finally get involved, and with promotion on the line, there’s plenty to be excited about.
“It’s an experienced group with a good blend of youth, so I’m looking forward to learning and developing within that setup, and hopefully I can contribute to some more wins.
“The side seems settled and has been on a good run, so I’ll do all I can to help with the team’s push to get out of Division Two.â€
Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, added: “We are extremely delighted to welcome Scott to the Club.
“His height provides a real advantage to any bowling attack, and we believe he will offer the team match-winning skills in all departments. His game awareness and hunger to improve has also been really encouraging. We can’t wait to see him put those qualities into practice for Leicestershire.â€
