Durham Cricket | T20 Match Preview - 04/06/2023

The Foxes make the long journey north to Durham still hunting for the win they desperately need to ignite their T20 summer.

It was defeat again on Friday night, as Chris Lynn’s classy hundred helped the Steelbacks to an eight-wicket win in Northamptonshire.

Durham, meanwhile, have won three from four at the start of their campaign, including an impressive six-wicket triumph over Lancashire Lightning on Friday.

Last Time We Met:

Leicestershire took victory by a huge 51-run margin upon the two sides’ last meeting, also at Seat Unique Riverside.

Finding themselves 80 for 6 after 12.3 overs, Wiaan Mulder played an impeccable innings during a calculated 54 (33b) that helped the Foxes to 157/9.

In reply, Rehan Ahmed took career-best figures of 4/22 as he bamboozled Durham and spun his side to a comfortable victory in front of the Sky cameras.

Head-to-Head:

The Foxes have lacked firepower at times during the middle overs so far in 2023. Louis Kimber’s return will be a welcome remedy for that.

His first innings back from injury saw him blast 41 from 27 balls batting at five, a timely reminder of his power. He only featured on three occasions in the Blast last summer, but he averaged 23 striking at a whopping 219.

Ollie Robinson has also shown his importance with the bat to the Durham cause. He’s hit 153 runs at 76.5 during the Blast so far, all while striking at 156. It’s an impressive sign of development for the former Kent man, who averaged 18.83 in T20 cricket during his loan spell last summer.

Squad:

An unchanged 14-man squad travels north to Durham.

Leicestershire Foxes: Ackermann*, Ahmed, Budinger, Davis, Finan, Hill, Hull, Kimber, Naveen, Naseem, Parkinson, Patel, Swindells+, Welch.
