Leicestershire County Cricket Club can confirm that Francesca (Cesca) Sweet will leave the club ahead of the 2026 season to join Glamorgan CCC.
Sweet joined the Foxes in early 2025 following a successful trial period and quickly became a central figure in Leicestershire’s inaugural Tier 2 season. Her all-round quality, drive and consistency made her one of the standout performers in the squad.
Across the Metro Bank One Day Cup “ Women League 2, Sweet amassed 315 runs in 9 matches, averaging 39.38, including an outstanding 138, two half-centuries and a century. She struck 36 fours and 5 sixes, scoring at a strike rate of 106.06 from 297 deliveries.
In the Vitality Blast Women “ League 2, she again led the way for Leicestershire with 296 runs from 9 innings, averaging 37.00 at a strike rate of 115.62, hitting 43 fours and 4 sixes, with a best of 67*.
A defining moment of her season came at Duffield CC, where Sweet and Hayley Brown produced a club-record 222-run partnership in the Metro Bank One Day Cup “ one of the highlights of Leicestershire’s first season in Tier 2 cricket.
Sweet was also a key figure in the Foxes’ T20 County Cup campaign, helping guide the side to the quarter-finals, where they hosted Tier 1 giants Lancashire Lightning at Kibworth CC.
Her move to Glamorgan is motivated in part by the Welsh county’s confirmed progression into Tier 1 for 2027, offering Sweet the opportunity to compete at the top level of the women’s domestic structure.
Captain Rebecca Brooker paid tribute to Sweet’s impact: “Cesca has been phenomenal for us this year. She’s performed consistently, embraced pressure moments, and has been an incredible human to be around off the field too. Cesca has been phenomenal for us this year, with bat, ball and in the field. That partnership at Duffield with Hayley is something truly special and will be remembered for a long time. While we’re sad to see her move on, we fully support her ambition and wish her every success as she prepares for a Tier 1 future.â€
Head Coach Stephen Franklin added: “Cesca made an impression from the moment she arrived on trial - her attitude, her hunger to improve and her all-round ability were clear straight away. She has been instrumental in helping us establish ourselves in Tier 2, and although we’re naturally disappointed to lose her, we understand and respect her desire to take the next step with Glamorgan. She leaves with our thanks and our very best wishes.â€
Cesca will return to Uptonsteel Grace Road on the 28th of June when the Foxes will take on Glamorgan in the first fixture of a double header day.
Leicestershire CCC extends its sincere gratitude to Francesca Sweet for
her outstanding service throughout the 2025 season. We wish Cesca every success
in the next chapter of her career.
Thank you, Cesca - once a Fox, always a Fox.
