Fancy furthering your cricket knowledge, escaping into a world of adventure, or simply putting your feet up with a book in hand while you enjoy watching Leicestershire in action? The ‘Book Nook’ might be just the place for you.
The newly opened library, ran by the Friends of Grace Road (FoGR) in the Upper Meet, is home to hundreds of books across a wide range of genres, offering a different dimension to the matchday experience at Uptonsteel County Ground.
The Book Nook was officially opened by Foxes stars Josh Hull and Peter Handscomb, with CEO; Sean Jarvis, and FoGR Chair; Mike Siddall also in attendance.
With autobiographies, cricket history books, fiction novels, and children’s stories, there’s something for everyone to enjoy alongside the elevated, side-on view of the match action.
Books can be borrowed for matchday enjoyment in the Book Nook or purchased by leaving a donation in the on-site Honesty Box. All donations are reinvested into the Club by the Friends, who donated a record £24,600 last season.
FoGR are also seeking donation of ‘pre-loved’ books to add to their collection, which can be placed in the donation box in the Book Nook on all home matchdays.
Mike Siddall, Chair, Friends of Grace Road, said: "We hope the 'Book Nook' will enhance our members & visitors experience, enabling them to delve into the vast array of cricket books on our shelves.
“We are very grateful to Thorpe's Joinery for providing the expert craftmanship which went into the wonderful bookshelves.â€
The Book Nook will be open for all four days as Leicestershire take on Glamorgan, starting on Sunday.
