The promotion race is hotting up in Division Two. Leicestershire sit fourth with four games to go, as they head to Wales to take on Glamorgan, starting on Thursday.
Ian Holland, who joined the Foxes permanently this week, hit his first hundred for the Club in last week’s draw against Gloucestershire, while Glamorgan fell to defeat by 10 wickets against Derbyshire.
Last Time We Met:
One of Leicestershire’s eight Championship draws this term, the two sides played out a seemingly inevitable stalemate during the wet spring earlier this season.
Scott Currie picked up his maiden five-fer, while Peter Handscomb (103) and Lewis Hill (92) put in superb displays with the bat in an even contest at Uptonsteel County Ground.
Fox to Watch:
For the first time this season, Chris Wright is included in a red-ball squad. The veteran seamer played the opening couple of days in the Second XI’s fixture against Nottinghamshire this week, as he steps up a return from a knee niggle.
His return to a young attack is a timely one. With 588 first-class wickets, Wright holds the precious knack of being able to take wickets in all conditions. Likely to have the new ball in-hand with Ian Holland, early wickets are far more likely.
Opposition Player to Watch:
One man the Foxes will have to dismiss promptly is Colin Ingram. 39 years of age, as is Wright, his experience will be pivotal to Glamorgan’s chances of accruing big totals this week.
He’s scored 815 runs in just seven innings this term, averaging a whopping 81.50 with four hundreds. If he’s out for a low score or two this week, Leicestershire will be smelling blood.
Squad:
At both ends of the experience spectrum, 39-year-old Chris Wright and 17-year-old Alex Green are both added to the squad. Sam Wood also comes into contention.
Josh Hull is away with England following his Test call-up, while Ben Green has briefly returned to Somerset ahead of their Vitality Blast quarter-final, as per the terms of his loan agreement. Roman Walker also drops out of the 13.
Ben Mike, Matt Salisbury and Scott Currie are all ruled out through injury.
Leicestershire: Ahmed, Budinger, A Green, Handscomb+, Holland, Hill*, Kimber, Patel, Rahane, Scriven, Trevaskis, Wright Wood.
