Green Earns England Under 19 Test Call

Leicestershire Academy bowler Alex Green has earned his maiden call up to England Men U19s for the two-match Youth Test series against Sri Lanka this month.

Green, 17, will be part a of a 14-player squad for the series, which begins at Wormsley on Monday 8 July before the second Youth Test at Cheltenham from Tuesday 16 July.

The 6ft 6” bowler has caught the eye after an outstanding 2023 season, during which he claimed 52 wickets at an average of 17.87 to receive Leicestershire Academy’s Bowler of the Year award.

Green has also made an impressive start to the 2024 campaign, snaring 15 wickets at 14.53, helping the U18’s qualify for T20 Finals Day in the process.

The Academy scholar, who possesses the ability to generate significant pace and bounce, has been involved with the Young Lions in the past week, taking 2/43 against Sri Lanka ahead of the Youth ODI series. He also impressed in a duo of Young Lions 50-over warm-up fixtures last summer.

Discussing Green’s call-up, Head of Talent Pathway Jigar Naik, said: “This is a deserved reward for Alex after his performances over the past year and all the hard yards he put in over the winter.

“He always wants to learn and has worked tirelessly with our Pathway coaches to kick on physically, technically, and tactically. We’re excited to see where Alex will be in the next couple of years.”

Green follows the likes of fellow Academy star Rehan Ahmed in representing England U19s in recent seasons.
