Hampshire CCC | One Day Cup Match Preview - 13/08/2023

Leicestershire are searching for a clean sweep of away victories in Group A of the Metro Bank One Day Cup, as they travel to the Ageas Bowl to face high-flying Hampshire on Sunday.

The Foxes currently sit top of the group after defeating Lancashire Lightning by 95 runs on Friday evening, setting a new club record List A total in the process.

A stern test in Southampton awaits, however, with Hampshire maintaining their 100% start thanks to a 91-run triumph over Notts Outlaws at Welbeck.

Last Time We Met:

The previous meeting between the two sides in List A cricket was back in 2014, where Niall O’Brien’s fantastic 105 not out steered Leicestershire to a six-wicket victory via DLS.

The Irishman’s century came off just 72 balls, as the Foxes reached 186/4 inside 25 overs. It followed impressive work with the ball from James Sykes, with the left-arm spinner claiming 3/34 from his ten overs before the rain fell.

In Focus:

Rishi Patel is having an outstanding season, and after Friday’s exploits it’ll come as no surprise that’s he’s back in the spotlight.

His 161 against Lancashire set records tumbling “ becoming the first-ever Leicestershire player to hit a century in all three formats in the same season and registering the Club’s highest individual total against a first-class county, surpassing Mark Pettini’s 159 against Warwickshire.

It was the opener’s second List A ton for the Foxes “ meaning he now has 662 runs at 33.1 in his 21 innings in the format for the Club to date. If he fires on Sunday, Leicestershire will have the foundation for another huge total.

Opposition Player to Watch:

Mason Crane’s return to the Hampshire fold last time out was a timely one. Back from The Hundred duty with London Spirit, the 26-year-old picked up 3/38 and added a handy 31 with the bat to help his side to victory.

The England international has 75 List A wickets at 28.57, alongside a batting average of 25.16, and will be key to the hosts’ chances of a fourth straight victory on Sunday.

Squad:

There’s one addition to the Foxes travelling squad, as Harry Swindells joins up with the 13 who defeated Lancashire last time out.

Leicestershire Foxes: Ackermann, Budinger, Evans, Handscomb+, Hill*, Hull, Kimber, Mulder, Patel, Ramji, Scriven, Swindells, Walker, Wright.
