Peter Handscomb scooped four awards at Leicestershire’s annual End of Season Dinner on Tuesday evening, as the Club’s Men’s and Women’s sides came together to toast the 2024 campaign.
The Australian star, who is now back in Melbourne for Victoria's season, earned the recognition of supporters, teammates and coaches alike, winning Fans’ Player of the Year, Men’s Players’ Player of the Year, and Cricketer of the Year.
Handscomb completed a trophy-laden night by claiming the Livingston Cup for Men’s Batter of the Year. The 33-year-old recorded more than 1,600 runs across formats, including six centuries, and finished as the Metro Bank One Day Cup’s leading run-scorer with 539 runs at an average of 67.37.
Leicestershire Women’s captain Becki Brooker took home Women’s Batter of the Year for the second season running after topping the Foxes’ run-scoring charts with 401 runs at an average north of 40. The opener’s impressive form started with a record-breaking century at the beginning of the campaign, posting LCCC Women’s highest ever individual total (145) during the 203-run victory over Cambridgeshire.
With 49 wickets to his name, Scott Currie - who leads the Club’s charts in both the Vitality County Championship and Vitality Blast - won the Frank S Smith Cup for Bowler of the Year, while the Hampshire loanee also picked up the Roger Goadby Trophy for his run-saving displays in the field.
Louis Kimber was presented with the John Josephs Cup for Best Individual Performance, awarded for his record-shattering 243 against Sussex at Hove, while Josh Hull and Sam Wood earned Young Player of the Year and Second XI Player of the Year respectively.
Joint-leading wicket-taker Hannah Francis was chosen as Women’s Bowler of the Year, while Sophie Bennett was nominated by her peers for Women’s Players’ Player of the Year.
17-year-old Sophie Lawrence, who starred in her debut season for Leicestershire Women this summer, rounded off the Women’s winners, taking home Coaches’ Player of the Year.
Congratulations to all of our award winners, and all three sides on another magnificent season.
