Hull Earns Maiden England Lions Call

Leicestershire bowler Josh Hull has been named in England Lions’ 12-man squad for the upcoming four-day match against Sri Lanka at Visit Worcestershire New Road.

The 19-year-old will feature in England Lions colours for the first time, following on from his appearance for a First-Class County Select XI against West Indies last month and his England Under 19s debut in 2022.

Hull, who has taken 51 wickets for the Foxes since his debut last summer, will feature in the warm-up match starting on Wednesday 14 August before returning to Uptonsteel County Ground for the conclusion of the season.

A highly-rated prospect, the 6ft 7” Academy graduate signed a new three-year contract with Leicestershire in June.

England Lions 12-man squad: Farhan Ahmed (Nottinghamshire), Zaman Akhter (Gloucestershire), Kasey Aldridge (Somerset), Josh Hull (Leicestershire), Eddie Jack (Hampshire), Lyndon James (Nottinghamshire), Ben McKinney (Durham), Ollie Price (Gloucestershire), James Rew (Somerset), Hamza Shaikh (Warwickshire), Ajeet Singh Dale (Gloucestershire), Rob Yates (Warwickshire).

England Men’s Performance Director, Ed Barney, said: “We’ve selected an exciting squad which brings a balance of exceptionally high-potential cricketers and proven performance. This selection follows on from the First-Class County fixture early in the summer where some of the brightest talent excelled against the West Indies.

“I have every confidence that we will continue to see these players enjoy, thrive and excel in the international arena, which for some will be their first full England Lions exposure.”

England Lions Head Coach, Mike Yardy, said: "It’s an exciting opportunity for the players selected to compete individually and as a team against an international opposition."
